Kevin H. Van

Managing Partner

Kevin Van is a Managing Partner of Mica Basin Holdings LLC, where he is responsible for sourcing, evaluating, and overseeing long-term investments in privately held operating businesses. He brings an institutional investment banking and buyouts background combined with an operator’s perspective, with a focus on disciplined underwriting, prudent capital structures, and active ownership.

Prior to founding Mica Basin Holdings, Kevin spent over two decades as an investment banker within the Mergers and Acquisitions group at Deutsche Bank Securities focused on private company buyouts across a diverse set of verticals including industrials, manufacturing, business services, healthcare, financial technology and software. His experience informs a pragmatic, risk-aware approach to investing, grounded in cash flow, operational durability, and alignment with employees.

Kevin founded Mica Basin Holdings to pursue a more focused, long-term investment strategy centered on direct ownership and stewardship. He believes the most enduring value is created through patience, simplicity, and integrity, and approaches each investment with the mindset of a permanent owner rather than a financial sponsor.

Kevin holds a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and an M.B.A. from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business

Stephen L. Van

Managing Partner

Steve Van is a Managing Partner of Mica Basin Holdings LLC and brings decades of experience as an operator, investor, and business builder across public service, real estate development, and hospitality. His career reflects a deep understanding of asset-intensive businesses, operational execution, and long-term value creation.

Steve began his career in state government and public policy. He later transitioned into commercial real estate development before founding Prism Hotels, an independent, third-party hotel management platform, where he served as President and Chief Executive Officer. Under his leadership, Prism grew into a highly regarded operating company managing full-service and select-service hotel assets across multiple markets.

During Steve’s tenure, Prism Hotels received numerous industry accolades, including being named Hyatt’s Best Full-Service Operator for multiple years, receiving Hotel Interactive’s Lodging Industry Elite Operator of the Year award in 2018, and earning the Hilton Connie Award in 2017. After successfully leading Prism for decades, the company was sold to private-equity-backed Aimbridge Hospitality. Since the transaction, Steve has remained active as an investor and advisor. At Mica Basin Holdings, he plays an integral role in deal sourcing, investment committee decisions, and providing strategic and operational guidance to portfolio companies.
